New Year’s Broom Making Workshop and Blessing Ritual

New Year’s Broom Making Workshop and Blessing Ritual

Brooms are used around the world for daily and ritual cleansing of spaces. A broom is an important part of making a safe and sacred space. In this industrial modern world handcrafts of all kinds are being replaced by machine made goods. The broom is no exception. Handcrafted brooms are on the brink of extinction.

On this New Years Day, we will gather together with Erin Rivera Merriman and special guest instructor Bethany Ridenour at Bridge Temple (Newly relocated to Elder Farm in Descanso, CA) for a day of slowing down, celebration, and study of the time honored craft of broom making.

Each attendee will make and take home their own turkey wing style whisk broom (shown in center photo above) and participate in a sweeping ritual that will assist us in clearing and resetting ourselves to greet the new calendar year with fresh eyes and open arms.

*** Please dress in warm layers, bring water, and a healthy snack to share with your sisters during our break. Cost includes all materials used to make your broom, covers Bethany's cost for travell and help offset the cost of the specialized tools she has created that enable us to create beautiful, long lasting, functional art/ritual objects with ease.
